"Crystal Ball Birthday Cake" https://www.julieleephoto.com/blog/2015/9/week-8-celebration-crystal-ball-birthday-cake I've joined the crystal ball rage lately by tucking one away into my camera bag. During downtime at a recent event I pulled it out to create this little vignette of the birthday girl's cake creation. I'm sure some day crystal ball photography will go down as 'gimmicky' but I'm enjoying the process for now and having some fun. I like the way it creates a circle of focus and throws the background into blur.

Week 7: Before/After ... "B&W Conversion" https://www.julieleephoto.com/blog/2015/9/week-7-before/after-b-w-conversion I shot this photo last weekend knowing it would be a black and white conversion. The colorful wall and drapes took away from the beautiful light on the client's face. After cleaning up the color photo and brightening up the grandmother's face I used color channels in Photoshop to convert the image to black and white. By increasing the luminosity of the green channel I was able to separate Kami's dark hair from the wall. By increasing the luminosity of the orange channel the skin was lightened on both subjects.

Week 6: OMG! ... "Turtle Hatchling" https://www.julieleephoto.com/blog/2015/9/week-6-omg-turtle-hatchling

I was shooting a beach sunrise with fellow photographers and as we were disassembling our equipment we spotted Loggerhead Turtle hatchlings making their way to the water! This is my OMG moment as this is my first time witnessing their journey from nest to the water. The still photo was captured with an iPhone 6 and processed in Lightroom. The accompanying video was also captured and edited with an iPhone 6 and iMovie.

Week 5: Out Of Focus ... "Starfish" https://www.julieleephoto.com/blog/2015/9/week-5-out-of-focus-starfish Starfish

I picked up a couple starfish at a store selling seashells and took them with me on a trip to the beach. This was captured with my pocket size camera, a Sony RX100 M3 at 1/640 second at f/2.5 and ISO 800 at 9mm so I could get up nice and close and create just a thin slice of focus. Even though the background is out of focus, I liked how I can tell it's a sunset at the beach. Thanks for looking!

Week 4: Upside Down ... "Crystal Ball Sunset" https://www.julieleephoto.com/blog/2015/8/week-4-upside-down-crystal-ball-sunset Crystal Ball Sunset Sunset in Naples, Florida as seen through a crystal ball. I sat the ball on one of the old piers and shot through it using a Sony RX100 M3 on its Macro setting. Post processing in Lightroom and rotated 180 degrees so the focused image became upright. This is my first time shooting through a crystal ball and have since found two more photographers doing the same! This could be fun.

"Milky Way over Naples" https://www.julieleephoto.com/blog/2015/8/week-2-night-time-milky-way-over-naples Milky Way over NaplesThis is my first attempt at capturing the Milky Way. I think I'm hooked! I kind of like the glow of Naples on the horizon and also the two satellites making an accidental appearance in this shot. Nikon D750, Rokinon 14mm/2.8, ISO 1600, f/2.8 for 20 seconds.

Week 1: Tiny World ... "Hello!" https://www.julieleephoto.com/blog/2015/8/49-tiny-world 49. Tiny World ... "Hello!"Macro photography is one of my personal photo indulgences. Shooting a moving subject in macro is not a simple task so the garden snails found in my back yard make for easy targets. This little guy is about 1/2 the size of a pinkie nail.
